An Italian Summer

Location

"An Italian Summer" is a collection of artwork inspired by the transformative power of light, both in art and in life. Inspired by three weeks in Italy, studying painting in Florence and traveling up and down the coast, this collection playfully tips a hat to the artistic technique of 'chiaroscuro,' which takes on a dual meaning as an affectionate nickname for the way sunlight bathes the city of Florence. The subject matter behind these pieces go beyond mere visuals, drawing on my own interpretation  of the cultural and geographical contrasts that make Italy so unique and special: the grandeur of Medici palaces to the rustic simplicity of the countryside; the vibrant city center vs. the peaceful riposo hours in Summer. Through these pieces, I hope to expresses my newfound appreciation for visual and physical interplay of light and contrast, hopefully transporting viewers to a place where light reigns supreme, where the ordinary is truly extraordinary, and where the magic of chiaroscuro paints the world in unforgettable hues.
